    Product Overview

The river doesn't care about your battle plan. It bends where the ground told it to a thousand years ago. The banks are rocky on one side, grassy on the other. The ford isn't where you wanted it to be.

That's what a river should look like on a table.

These are FeltPro™ Cut & Play River sections — a 3" water channel that actually meanders inside each piece, flanked by natural rocky and grass banks. No ruler-straight edges. No perfectly symmetrical shoreline. Water that looks like it moves. Part of the FeltPro™ system, not a standalone mat.

    What you get:

    • 8 straight river sections, roughly 14" each, with a naturally winding channel inside each piece
    • 2 U-bend curves for wide river turns, oxbow setups, or looping back across the table
    • Rocky gravel banks and green grass shores — both sides, varying naturally, trim them to the waters edge or leave a rocky bank and green verge
    • Roughly 150"+ of total river — over 12 feet of waterway across the sheet

The meander is the point. Every straight section has a different curve to the water channel. Line two up and the river wanders. Flip one upside down and the curve reverses. Swap the order and the whole character changes. Eight straights and two bends give you dozens of possible river layouts.

But you can cut. Cut & Play means exactly that. Scissors. Trim a section shorter to fit a gap. Cut along the waterline to separate the banks. Narrow the channel where the river squeezes between rocks. Widen it into a shallow ford by trimming the banks back. Carve a tributary. Notch an inlet. These are felt. They're meant to be cut. Cut with confidence.

Then drape them. That's the third dimension nobody else gives you. Lay a river section across a valley and it follows the low ground. Drape it over a ridge and it sits in the saddle. The banks rise where the terrain rises. The water sinks where the ground dips. A river that actually flows downhill instead of hovering on a flat rubber sheet.

    Why FeltPro™:

    • Lightweight. Roll it, fold it, toss it in a bag. Rivers shouldn't weigh more than the water table.
    • Real topography. Cut & Play pieces drape over your terrain and hold shape — the river follows the ground, not the other way around.
    • A system, not a mat. Pair with FeltPro™ Dirt Roads and Cobblestone Roads for a complete table — the road runs to the river, the ford crosses it, the trail picks up on the far side.
    • Costs less than neoprene. You shouldn't have to pay rubber-yoga-mat money for a creek.

    Built for:

    • Napoleonics — contested crossings, flank-defining waterways, bridge approaches
    • ACW — creek crossings, river bluffs, the problem of getting artillery across
    • Dark Ages & Medieval — fjord approaches, monastery raids, border rivers
    • WW2 — river assault crossings, bridgehead defense, recon patrols along the bank
    • Fantasy — enchanted streams, border rivers, the ford the party shouldn't have trusted
    • Any period — rivers define battles. Always have.

Works for Black Powder, Sharp Practice, General d'Armée, Bolt Action, Chain of Command, SAGA, Hail Caesar, Flames of War, Frostgrave — anywhere moving water divides the field.

The river was the first obstacle. The bridge was the first objective.
